In the second round of the AHSAA playoffs, two of the best Alabama high schools football programs will compete with one another.


The defending Class 7A state champion, Hewitt Trussville enters the match at 11-1.In this regard, the Huskies have been propelled forward by their leading senior quarterback, Tyler Johnson, who has so far achieved more than 3000 yds and 30 TDs.Kobe Prentice of Hewitt Trussville has run for over thousand yards of touchdowns in a single season.


Hoover is the No.They are the number one seeds in Class 7A with a record of 12- 0.Currently senior quarterback Bennett Meredith is leading the team with more than 2,500 passed yards and 25 touchdowns pass this season.The senior running back for Hoover, Jamari Smith, has run for more than 1,000 yards, scoring ten touchdowns, this season.


Since 2016, there have been four meetings between Hewitt Trussville and Hoover whereby Hewitt Trussville won thrice in them.In their previous encounter in the Class 7A state championship game last season, Hewitt Trussville emerged victorious against Vestavia Hills by a narrow margin of 24-14.


Clay Chalkville vs.Mountain Brook


Two of the most successful high school football programs in the state of Alabama will go head-to-head in this week’s second round AHSAA playoff game as a visiting Clay Chalkville takes on Mountain Brook.


Clay Chalkville is the No.It is ranked 1seed in class 6A and has a history of 11-1.This year, senior quarterback Ty Piggott of the Cougars has passed for over 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.Another important fact is that Clay Chalkville has a very good running team which is led by senior running back Chris Vinson who has run more than 1,000 yards and scored fifteen goals in all matches of this season.


Mountain Brook is the No.The team currently stands at 9-3 and is ranked as fourth in Class 6A.Their quarterback, senior John Colvin has led his team of more than 20,000 yards and 20 TD’s in this campaign (season).Mountain Brook is equally good in terms of running, as they have a reliable senior running back Henry Ruggs III who has run more than 1 000 yards during the current campaign and scored 15 touchdowns.


Between 2014 and now, Clay Chalkville and Mountain Brook have played each other four times in postseason.In 2018, they played the Class 6A state championship game where Clay Chalkville won by a point of 28-14.


Analysis


These two matches are expectedly to be tough competitions.The winner here will definitely be no. 2 seeded Hewitt Trussville which is the defending state champion with experience versus H2 No.They have a lot of talented players capable of taking the team to 1 seed in the class.Clay Chalkville is the No.Mountain Brook is a dangerous squad, which is currently at its peak form. That said; this makes them a serious threat for the 1 seeded Hoover team.
