New Era for New Mexico State Football as Coach Jerry Kill Steps Down

Las Cruces, NM – A Legacy of Resilience: Under Coach Kill, NMSU maintained a strict determination and focus on building the type of winning culture he always envisioned. Under his leadership, the Aggies overcame major obstacles to adopt a tough-minded attitude. In 2017 he led them back into bowl games for first time in 56 years. On and off the field his energy was infectious; he had a love for the game everybody could see, that won him both teammate's respect and admiration from fans.


Director of Athletics Mario Moccia added, Jerry Kill is not just a football coach. "He is a leader, counselor and friend to many. We are thankful for his commitment based on the principle of developing athletes not only as players but also helping them get into colleges or find dignified occupations afterwards." The legacy that he has left behind will continue inspiring our athletes well beyond himself.


Moving Forward: The situation for the program is changing with Coach Kill's departure, but A&M should be in good shape. The football program at NMSU has seen tremendous growth and stability under the direction of Coach Kill. The team has a firm base of talented young players, dedicated staff and enthusiastic fans who are prepared to support the next chapter.
